We represent people, not issues

Immigration and naturalization
Hamilton, McDonald & Carter is a family-oriented firm. We understand how immigration and naturalization issues can affect family ties, and we do our best to keep families together. We handle a lot of immigration and naturalization cases, and we have helped a lot of people realize their dreams of living in the United States of America. We represent clients before the Immigration and Naturalization Service, and we work on all issues related to immigration and naturalization laws, including visas, citizenship, employment, compliance, and deportation.

Administrative law
If you have a workers’ compensation dispute or a conflict with a public utility, we can help. We are veterans of administrative hearings, and our attorneys have a long history of dealing with administrative investigations, administrative officers and agents, administrative rulemaking, licensing, and regulatory enforcement. We can represent businesses and individuals in proceedings before administrative bodies, such as environmental agencies and zoning boards. We can also help mediate such disputes.

Alternative dispute resolution
We are experienced arbitrators and mediators, and we are members of the American Arbitration Association. Alternative dispute resolution is popular because it is less complicated than a lawsuit, and we are always looking for solutions that are best for our clients. Alternative dispute resolutions such as mediation and arbitration are often used in workers’ compensation and public utilities disputes, and we have a great deal of experience in those matters.

Business and commercial law
Businesses come to us for full legal service. We help with the initial business organization and business formation, and then we help those same businesses deal with the many and varied legal problems that they face. We advise and act on such matters as directors = and officers liability, dissolution, franchising, reorganization, trade association membership and activity, joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, business successions, and shareholders rights. We represent car dealers, real estate companies, housing complexes, and other businesses in the greater Ann Arbor, MI area. If you are looking for a business organization plan or a solution to a business problem, we can make it happen.

Family law
The practice of family law is natural for our firm. We get to know our clients, and we are conscientious about respecting their feelings. That is why we have so many clients who have been with us for a long time. For divorce, child support, spousal support, division of property, visitation rights, adoption, or any other law-related family matter, give us a call and we will help you through your sensitive family conflict.

Litigation and appeals
We file lawsuits and argue for our clients in court, and we do it quite well. We are experienced in court and quick on our feet. We also handle appeals, which are different from trials. Filing and arguing an appeal is an important step, and you want an experienced attorney on your side for such an undertaking.

Product liability
If you have been injured as a result of an unsafe product, we will fight for your rights and make sure that you are fairly compensated for your injuries. Unsafe products abound in today’s world: asbestos, clothes, alcohol, guns, food, machinery and tools, medical products and devices, motor vehicles, pharmaceutical products, recreational products, and tobacco are just a few of the dangerous products out there. Give us a call if you have been injured, and we will do all we can to make you whole again.

Medical malpractice
Doctors may not try to hurt people, but the fact is, sometimes they do. If you have been injured due to the negligence, recklessness, or misconduct of a medical professional, an apology is not going to suffice. You will likely need to fight for your rights, and it is not easy to do that alone. Give us a call and we will put our experience and connections to work for you.

Personal injury
We genuinely care about our clients. More often than not, they are our neighbors. If you have been injured, we want to see you get better. We can help make that happen by making sure that you get the resources you need to recover. If you have been injured by a car accident or other motor vehicle accident, slip and fall, trip and fall, dog bite, defective product, dangerous condition, assault, battery, emotional distress, or negligence, we will listen to you and take action so that you can get back to living your life.

Probate and estate administration
Even seemingly simple estates require a learned hand, and our lawyers are expert in the technicalities of estate administration and probate, which is the process of paying debts and distributing assets.  From will contests to the final arrangements, we can shoulder the burden for you so that you can take care of yourself. If a loved one has passed on, we are here for you.

Estate planning
Everyone needs a plan, especially for money and assets. We are savvy about estate planning matters such as wills, trusts, taxes, insurance, property, and planning for probate. We can advise you and make sure that you gain the maximum benefit of the laws and preserve what is yours.

Real estate law
We serve both commercial clients and individuals in all proceedings and transactions that deal with real property or “real estate,” which is land and the structures attached to it. We work on purchase and sale documents, construction issues and conflicts, mortgages and foreclosures, leases, zoning, title examinations, quiet title actions, closings, and property management.

Your particular issue
You may have a dispute dealing with rental property, or with your tenant or landlord. You may be facing criminal charges. You may want to establish new legal ground with a case that nobody has ever considered. Whatever the legal problem, if you are in Ann Arbor or the surrounding area, give us a call and we will show you why we have so many life-long clients. We don’t exist to represent issues; we exist to represent people.
